Good afternoon, everyone. My name is Eric Foster, and I am the co-founder of the Future Today and Tomorrow Super PAC. Today, I want to address a critical issue affecting our political landscape, governance, and daily lives. The challenges we face as individuals, as a nation, and as a global community are deeply intertwined with the functionality of our government.
The Importance of Co-Equal Branches in American Government
One of the most fundamental aspects of the American government is the system of co-equal branches: the judiciary, the legislative (Congress), and the executive. At present, many claim that Congress is not functioning as it should. However, this critique requires clarification.
Framing the Problem Accurately
The issue is not with Congress as a whole, but rather with the MAGA Congressional Subsidiary, which currently holds the majority and runs Congress. This distinction is essential. In pro-democracy circles, traditional non-MAGA media, and among elected officials and candidates committed to maintaining our constitutional republic and representative democracy, it is important not to generalize the problem as a failure of Congress itself. Instead, we must be precise in our language, acknowledging that the dysfunction stems from the specific majority in power, not from all members.
The Danger of Overgeneralization
When we refer to “Congress” as the source of dysfunction, we unfairly implicate all members, including non-MAGA Republicans, Democrats, and independents who are working to fulfill their duties as legislators. This broad characterization distorts reality. Most Democratic members, independents, and the few remaining non-MAGA Republicans are striving to uphold the responsibilities of Congress.
Analogy: The Detroit Pistons and the NBA Eastern Conference
This situation is similar to how the Detroit Pistons were perceived during the early 2000s. While the Eastern Conference was generally considered weaker compared to the Western Conference, the Pistons demonstrated their strength by winning the 2004 NBA Finals against the Lakers. Prior to that, they were unfairly grouped with less successful teams in their conference. The lesson here is that lumping all teams—or all members of Congress—together obscures the efforts and successes of those who are performing well.
The Impact of Grouping All Members Together
By failing to distinguish between those who are complicit in dysfunction and those genuinely working towards solutions, we undermine trust in government and diminish the value of the good actors. Grouping everyone together discourages those striving for positive change and misleads the public about the true sources of dysfunction.
The Role of the MAGA Congressional Subsidiary
The reality is that the current MAGA congressional majority has aligned itself with a dictatorial regime, willingly ceding its constitutional authority. This shift is not due to fear but a conscious choice to support a unitary executive theory, which effectively translates to a dictatorship. If you do not wish to live under such a system, it is crucial to differentiate between those who are perpetuating the problem and those working to solve it.
Action Steps: Separate and Act Accordingly
To restore trust in government and make meaningful progress, we must clearly separate the actions and intentions of different congressional members. Recognize and support those genuinely working for the public good, and hold accountable those who have joined in the dismantling of democratic norms. Use your voting and economic power to make these distinctions matter.
In summary, do not treat all congressional dysfunction as the same. Communicate the reality that Congress contains both those who are committed to democracy and those who are undermining it.
